The owner of a large private property in New Jersey asked us to be a part of his superhero street art gym makeover. The goal was to create a superhero street art mural that would motivate the kids in the family to be healthy and use the new gym.
First, our directions were to stay true to the illustration style of comic books in general. Our graffiti artists tried to find a happy medium between the traditional and modern character styles. We wanted a style that could be spray painted clearly. In addition, we also wanted to blend in from the edges. Our goal for blending the edges was not to create a hard rectangle in which the art lived. On the left of the superhero street art mural, the overall scene has Batman looking down from his perch as Hulk smashes and Spider-Man swings from his webs. Our mural painters kept the center area behind the basketball backboard generally clear of characters. Superman, Wonder Woman, and Captain America are all doing their thing over on the right.
The sheer size and vibrancy of this superhero street art mural made it a lot of fun. It was also interesting tweaking the city and character layout around the basketball net and windows in the space. The dark background color and high contrast red pads against the wall compliment the design and really help it pop! It would be tough to resist working hard in a space as clean and tight as this one.The sheer size and vibrancy of this superhero street art mural made it a lot of fun.
