Graffiti USA – Alternative Postcard Mural Styles

Postcard style murals are a great solution to combine text with imagery. They are a very popular graffiti mural solution based off of the large letter postcards from the mid-century. We have our own unique spins on tying in imagery & lettering that may align with you vision even better. Furthermore, this particular style of mural attracts many interactive photo ops and quickly become landmark attractions.

The level of detail of these murals are on the higher end since we are essentially creating multiple mini murals within a larger mural. As a result, the production time generally takes much longer install one of these postcard murals. For instance, using spray paint on a smaller scale is actually more technically difficult than painting large scale. Keep in mind that the width of spray paint line cannot get as thin as some brushes.

One way to reduce the scope and cost of postcard murals is to stretch one unique image across multiple letters and also work with looser lettering styles. Above all, this allows our artists to paint freehand without masking off straight lines and ultimately speeds up the mural painting process.

Graphic Graffiti Mural for Vornado Realty Trust

We worked with Vornado Realty Trust to create a custom graphic mural with the word CREATE. Within each letter, we designed a collage of landmarks from the midtown neighborhood of New York City. After that, each letter incorporated a monotone color scheme to keep the mural from looking too busy. As a result, this was a great alternative to the traditional postcard mural that works across a non-traditional canvas.

See Through Interactive Mural on Plexiglass

For the Bronx marathon, we had the opportunity to work with one of our favorite clients New Balance on an activation that involved painting a postcard mural on custom plexiglass canvas that we built. However, the unique part of this was that the inside of the letters were left empty and see through. After that, we placed another collage mural on a separate canvas wall behind this plexiglass wall. As a result, people go go between the canvases and be photographed inside the artwork!

Graffiti Style Postcard Mural for Expedia

For a recent project with Expedia, we put a street style graffiti spin to the lettering. For example, the client was looking for an edgy approach that incorporated traditional New York style graffiti wildstyle. Therefore, we stacked the words and also incorporated wheat paste into this custom piece. The artwork was installed in their corporate office space in Manhattan.

Postcard Style Individual Canvases for RIPCO

We partnered with RIPCO to paint 5 individual canvases containing a letter each for their offices in New York City. Firstly, the client gave direction on the imagery to be included in each letter. Secondly,, we installed the canvases adjacent to each other to form one larger piece just like Voltron!

Bubble Letter Graffiti Postcard Mural in Boston

Another interior mural artist project in postcard style in Boston. This time, we partnered with Xebia Labs to design a fun mural in their corporate office. However, instead of the traditional sharp line fonts, we went with a bubbly looser text style. As a result, this looked like a really fun design that contrasted with the corporate space.

Rooftop Graffiti Postcard Mural in New York City

Our client Jay Suites reached out to us to help paint a postcard style mural that was very simple with one graphic image running through all of the lettering. A mural of this style was not in the category of a high detail piece of artwork. Therefore, we were able to complete an installation like this within one day.

In conclusion, we have worked on all kinds of postcard mural projects that are an alternative to the classic Greetings Tour style. For example, let’s say you don’t ned to  feature an artist by name.  In addition, you are okay with not trying to copy the Greetings Tour aesthetic directly.  As a result, we should be able to help you with your postcard mural project.
