Los Angeles residential mural

L.A. residential mural

We recently had the pleasure of creating several large scale murals for Avalon Bay’s residential and commercial building in Downtown Los Angeles Arts District. These murals are not just decorative pieces; they tell stories and celebrate the vibrant culture of the city. Each mural has its own unique theme and message, making the building a true landmark in the area.

The “Eye” Mural

One of the most striking pieces we painted is an eight-story mural of a bold graphic eye. This mural posed a unique challenge due to the layout of the building, which includes many apartment windows. Despite this, we designed the eye to seamlessly integrate with the architecture, ensuring that the windows became a part of the artwork rather than an obstacle.

The concept behind the eye is symbolic. Los Angeles is a melting pot of cultures and perspectives, and we wanted to capture this diversity. The eye symbolizes the many different viewpoints and experiences that coexist in this bustling metropolis. We used vibrant, multicolored layers to represent the rich tapestry of backgrounds, stories, and cultures that make up the city. The result is a visually impactful mural that draws attention and captivates viewers. It has quickly become a landmark, celebrating Los Angeles culture through different lenses.

The “Community” Mural

Another highlight of our project is the “Community” mural, located in the “Bike Lane” area on the side of the building. This mural is a 400-foot-long scene depicting members of the Avalon Bay community coming together to paint a mural. The vibe is bold, fun, upbeat, and whimsical, perfectly matching the communal and engaging nature of the area.

The “Community” mural is not just about the act of painting; it’s about the spirit of togetherness and collaboration. It reflects the vibrant community life in DTLA. Without a doubt where people from all walks of life come together to share experiences and create something beautiful. The playful and lively design invites viewers to feel a sense of belonging and joy, making it a favorite spot for both residents and visitors.

Yanoe x Zoueh Mural

The mural by Yanoe & Zoueh celebrates the past, present, and future of DTLA Arts District. This artwork spans several surfaces and depicts the Arts Disctrict across different time periods. Painted in Zoueh and Yanoe’s signature illustration style, the mural is rich in color and features powerful abstractions heavily influenced by graffiti roots.

This mural tells a story of transformation and progress. It celebrates the history of the Arts District, showcasing iconic scenes from the past. It also highlights the present, capturing the vibrant and dynamic nature of the city today. Finally, it looks towards the future, imagining what the Arts District might become. The blend of styles and eras creates a thought-provoking piece that encourages viewers to reflect on the city’s journey and its potential.

Large Scale Murals Engage the Community

The large scale murals at Avalon Bay in the Arts District are more than just art. They are celebrations of the city’s diversity, community, and evolution. Each of our residential murals tells a unique story. Inviting viewers to engage with the artwork and the ideas behind it. These murals have become not only visual landmarks but also symbols of the vibrant culture and spirit of Los Angeles. Whether you’re a resident or a visitor, these murals offer a rich and immersive experience that truly captures the essence of DTLA.
