Asian style mural created for a local sushi restaurant in New York City. We were commissioned by Bento Sushi to do a custom mural in their new midtown location at 685 3rd Ave. (between 43 & 44 St.) Our client provided us w/ the artistic direction of this piece. We focus primarily in aerosol artwork. However, we also enjoy painting indoor murals like this one using alternate mediums! This was a fun project and if you are in midtown, you should go check out the mural and enjoy some sushi! Below are some images of the artwork in progress and the completed work.
Firstly, we came up with the Japanese style dynamic flowing design. Secondly, we utilized a custom made wide brush to apply the paint. The tool was similar to a window washer. As a result, we were able to create long streaky strokes. Thirdly, we added in a bright red pop color. We pulled the black and red colors from the client’s branding.
This looked like a simple abstract design. However, it took a lot of detailed brush work to achieve the dynamic look throughout the space. Our mural company owner is Asian and we love to pay tribute to Asian mural styles.
We painted two adjacent walls in total. In addition, the sushi restaurant furnishings also matched the mural.
