When 2AM, a late-night restaurant in Baltimore, reached out for mural work, we were thrilled. Their concept stands out by offering far more than the usual after-hours grub. With a unique menu featuring items like crabmeat fries, they wanted murals that captured the energy of their innovative menu and drew in a crowd. Our Baltimore street artist had the opportunity to bring that vision to life with two distinct murals—one on the entry wall and another in a cozy back dining area.

Murals with Purpose

The first mural was especially important. The restaurant’s black entry wall is highly visible from the street. Clearly making it the perfect canvas to capture the attention of passersby and entice them inside. The goal was to create something bold and dynamic. With this in mind, we drew inspiration from the lively, bustling intersections found in major cities across Asia. The client wanted to depict Shibuya Crossing in Tokyo. A famous intersection often compared to Times Square in New York. Shibuya is a place where the city pulses with life, and people are always on the move. Without a doubt we sought to pull from that energy.

The mural represents this energetic scene. Our Baltimore street artist painted an expansive street filled with people walking through the intersection. The bright billboard lights in pink and blue hues cast shadows over the crowd, making the mural feel alive. The pops of color and constant movement in the imagery not only make the wall stand out, but also embody the vibrant late-night vibe that the restaurant offers. It’s a scene that speaks to the fast pace of city life, drawing customers in with a sense of excitement and curiosity.

Moving to the second mural, located in the restaurant’s back dining area, we continued with the theme of late-night culture. But on a more intimate scale. Inspired by the cozy, tucked-away alleyways found in Asian cities. This mural depicts people huddled together on stools, eating street food under the purple glow of neon signs. The ambiance here is quieter, more laid-back. Nonetheless, still full of character. The dim lighting and casual setting are perfect for customers enjoying a late-night meal after a night out in Baltimore.

Impactful Results

The combination of these two murals creates an immersive atmosphere for the restaurant, transporting customers into the vibrant world of late-night dining culture in Asia. Whether they’re grabbing a quick bite before heading home or hanging out with friends, the murals enhance the overall experience, making it feel like more than just a place to eat. These pieces reflect the essence of 2AM’s brand—fun, bold, and elevated, just like their menu.

At MAC, we had a fantastic time working on this project. We love helping businesses express their unique identity through art, and 2AM was no exception. The murals not only beautified the space, but they also created a distinct “vibe” that matches the energy of Baltimore’s late-night scene.

If you’re ever strolling through the streets of Baltimore late at night, keep an eye out for the bold cityscape and neon alleyway we painted. It might just inspire you to step inside for a meal!
