Storytelling Through Design: Bringing a Vision to Life with a DC Mural Artist
When the National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF) moved to their new headquarters, they wanted to create a space that reflected their mission and history. Their goal was to develop an installation that honored their journey while engaging visitors, employees, and stakeholders. To bring this vision to life, they partnered with Graffiti Arts and a DC mural artist known for large-scale installations. Together, they designed a mural that told the foundation’s story and matched the modern, professional feel of their workspace. We were honored to be chosen as their creative partner.
Understanding the NPF’s Vision
The NPF’s history began in 1966 with Beverly Foster of Portland, Oregon. Beverly, who struggled with severe psoriasis, had one wish: to connect with others who shared her experience. Her husband placed an ad in a local newspaper, and within a week, Beverly received over 100 calls. This led to the creation of the Psoriasis Society of Oregon, which later became the NPF. Since then, the foundation has played a key role in research, education, and supporting those living with psoriasis.
For their new headquarters in Alexandria, NPF wanted a centerpiece that captured this journey. They aimed to highlight milestones, breakthroughs, and the individuals who shaped psoriasis treatment. The challenge was balancing bold storytelling with a professional, modern design.
From Concept to Completion: The Creative Process
The Graffiti Arts team had less than three weeks to bring this vision to life. The team worked closely with NPF leadership, creating a mural that combined the foundation’s history with street art energy. We crafted every detail to ensure the final piece aligned with NPF’s vision and became a striking centerpiece in their new headquarters.
We created a concept that blended elements of a timeline and a collage—an immersive mural with historical milestones and dynamic visuals. The final design drew inspiration from graffiti art, with bold colors and fluid movement. Our goal was to create a mural that commemorated psoriasis advocacy and inspired progress in the field.
The Impact: A Lasting Tribute to Progress
Now, visitors and staff entering the NPF headquarters encounter a powerful visual representation of the foundation’s legacy. The mural is more than just decoration—it symbolizes resilience, scientific achievement, and the commitment to improving the lives of those affected by psoriasis.
Partnering with the NPF and a local DC mural artist on this project was an incredible experience. We are proud to have played a role in bringing their story to life. This installation is a lasting tribute to their work, ensuring their mission is seen and felt by all who walk through their doors.
