When it comes to murals using the medium of spray paint, the time it takes for us to complete pieces depends on the level of detail in the design. As the level of detail increases, it actually becomes more difficult to paint on smaller canvases. Keep in mind that the width of a thin spray paint line is almost 1 inch wide to begin with. Different artists may work at various speeds but the examples below give a visual example of what low, standard and high detail look like (using spray paint):

LOW DETAIL

  • 1-2 Colors
  • Utilizing more negative space
  • Large & abstract blocks of color
  • Graffiti tags, Simple bubble letters

STANDARD DETAIL

  • Bold & vector based graphics
  • 2D cartoons & illustrations
  • Up to 6 spot colors w/ varying tones
  • Wildstyle & more technical graffiti letters
  • Font based text/typography & corporate logos

HIGH DETAIL

  • Hyperrealism & photorealism
  • Requires photo references
  • Shading & Specialized shadow techniques
  • Very technical & intricate details
  • Full color
